The volume gathers the results of the doctoral research conducted by the author within the Doctoral School in Engineering and Architecture at the University of Parma (supervisor: Professor Federica Ottoni, co-supervisor: Professor Carlo Blasi). The study focuses on the wooden ring of the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore – a still little-known element of the famous Brunelleschi’s work – of which the constructional and maintenance history is retraced here. The book traces the steps of the journey that, through the critical analysis of archival documents and the comparison of historical data with the evidence of the current state, allowed dating of the main elements composing the chestnut chain.
